Sagrada Família Historical and Cultural Significance The Sagrada Família, a magnificent Roman Catholic minor basilica in Barcelona, is an iconic symbol of the city. Designed by the visionary architect Antoni Gaudí, its construction began in 1882 and, even today, remains unfinished. Its unique design, which blends Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms, has made it one of Barcelona's most famous landmarks. The church is a stunning example of a 20th-century cathedral and is intended to be a visual representation of the Christian faith, with its three symbolic facades: Nativity, Passion, and Glory.
